Friday is the last day to purchase a wreath for the local Wreaths Across America program, which will place wreaths at the gravesites of local veterans on Dec. 12.

Ascension Veterans Associations is working with program honorary chairman Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux, a veteran, in selling a goal of 200 wreaths.

Wreaths Across America is a national movement carried out, in part, by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington National Cemetery and at veterans cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond, according to its website.

The nonprofit group also coordinates veteran services and recognition through a variety of programs and provides schools with teaching aides for projects throughout the year.

To order a wreath to be placed during the Dec. 12 ceremony, visit any Ourso Funeral Home in Ascension Parish or call (225) 485-7875.
