River Region Art Association’s annual Awesome Art Festival provides residents a chance to see and buy arts and crafts items from area artisans and gives area nonprofit groups an opportunity to earn extra money.
The festival, set for Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 along the banks of Bayou Francois, will feature several nonprofit groups this year, including Boy Scout Troop 769.
Scout Master David Breaux said the event teaches the Boy Scouts responsibility and helps them gain organizational skills. Breaux said the funds earned from the troop’s booth will be used to fund summer camp, winter camp and high-adventure trips. The Boy Scouts’ booth will feature sausage po-boys and chips.
Festival booths will feature a wide variety of items for sale, including paintings, carvings, photographs and collages.
There will be an art exhibit and contest that will display the art of adults, youths and children. They will be able to enter works of art of all kinds for everyone to see and admire. All the art will receive acknowledgement; some will be given awards and prizes.
The festival will include activities for children and entertainment on the stage in Jambalaya Park.
