The Ascension Veterans Memorial Park’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Monday in the park on Irma Boulevard in Gonzales.
There will be refreshments provided after the ceremony.
Purina adoption event set
Tractor Supply Company, 414 W. La. 30, Gonzales, is hosting a pet event May 30 to encourage adoptions and support local animal groups.
The event is part of Purina Days, set from May 27 to May 31.
All Purina Days events are open to the public and their pets. Along with all the products to care for a variety of pets and animals, Tractor Supply will have free adoption kits on hand throughout Purina Days for the first 10 customers who adopt a pet or animal from a local shelter or rescue. During the event, the store will host Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Raising a pet or animal can be great fun, but it’s a big responsibility, too,” said Jeremy Smith, manager of the Gonzales Tractor Supply store. “We want pet owners to have all the tools they need to make their home pet ready from day one.”

Bible school dates soon
May 31 is the last day children can register for River Community Church’s Vacation Bible School.
Area children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to participate in a vacation Bible school that will take them back in time to a marketplace in 29 A.D.
During the week of June 8 to 12, from 9 a.m. to noon, children will be part of a tribe in Judea and experience stories from the Bible.
