The Gonzales Garden Club held its monthly meeting at the Gonzales Safety Center on Jan. 6 with guest speaker Laura Moser, a 12-year member of the Sundowner’s African Violet Society of Baton Rouge.

Moser talked about the global history, propagation techniques and healthy maintenance of African violet plants and diagnosed growth problems of plant specimens brought by club members.

Club members Jamie Trisler, Barbara McCormick, Kat Hightower and Marilyn Oubre brought mass floral designs for critiques.

The Horticultural Hint of the Month was to plant tulip and hyacinth bulbs that have been chilled for six to eight weeks. The Gardening Tip of the Month was from Conchita Richey, who provided an explanation of wick watering African violets.

Hostesses Loretta Ramirez, Janis D’Benedetto, Lorraine Gautreau, Gail Lonibos, Ellen Richmond and Cathy Venable served chili with accompaniments and desserts for lunch.
