Pretty with a Purpose, an organization centered on building young girls’ confidence, will host its first Miss Donaldsonville Teen Pageant this summer.

The organization was founded by Bria Virgil, Miss Teen Louisiana International 2013.

Old history is new again

More copies of local author Bobby Marchand’s book “The Story of Acy, Louisiana, Past and Present” are now available.

Originally published in 1998, the book hasn’t been available since 2007. The new edition has additional pages and a new binding.

“The Story of Acy, Louisiana, Past and Present” contains interviews with the senior citizens of Acy and research from historical records. It highlights the early settlers, how they acquired their land and the hardships they endured and traces their descendants to present-day residents.

Relay for Life

Thirty-five teams raised more than $162,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Ascension Parish on May 2 in Gonzales, according to a news release.

Cancer survivors, families, caregivers, local faith-based groups, businesses and clubs walked a total of nine hours.

Relay For Life is a community-based, volunteer-driven event supporting the fight against cancer.

Monthly art market

The River Region Art Association will showcase its members’ talents at the monthly Art Gumbo Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Free and open to the public, the market includes complimentary food tasting from Latil’s Landing Restaurant.

Football registration set

The Gonzales-based Ascension Cougars Youth Football league is having registration on Saturday and June 27 at Gonzales Middle School.

Cheerleaders and football players can register from 10 a.m. to noon.

Registration is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 12 years old. Registration fees are $130 for football and $100 for cheer.
