DONALDSONVILLE — A Donaldsonville man pleaded guilty to molestation of a juvenile under the age of 12, in a last-minute agreement with prosecutors during his trial Wednesday, a spokesman for 23rd Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin said.

Derrick Hathorn, 33, of 116 Oak Ridge Ave., Donaldsonville, was arrested in March 2016 after Ascension Parish sheriff's investigators learned that he had been molesting a juvenile for more than three years, when the child was under 12 years old, said Tyler Cavalier, public information officer for the district attorney.

After Hathorn's guilty plea Wednesday, Judge Jason Verdigets sentenced Hathorn to 25 years at hard labor in state prison with credit for time served, Cavalier said in a news release. The sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.

When Hathorn is released, he'll be required to register as a sex offender or child predator, for life, Cavalier said.
