An author visit and book-signing with Alyne Pustanio will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Galvez Branch of the Ascension Parish Library.
Pustanio lectures on the subjects of occult, paranormal phenomena, zombie and Voodoo folklore. Some of her popular titles include “Haunting Tales of Old New Orleans: History, Legends, and Lore,” “Risks Incidental: Supernatural Dangers of Paranormal Exploration” and “Purloined Stories and Early Tales of Old New Orleans.”

The lost colony
In celebration of Louisiana Archaeology Month, Ascension Parish Library will host a program on the New Acadia Project, a grass-roots initiative involving multidisciplinary archaeological, historical and ethnographic research to find and investigate the 1765 settlement of New Acadia.
“Search for the Lost Colony of New Acadia: A Report on Recent Investigations” with Mark Rees, associate professor of anthropology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and principal investigator of the New Acadia Project, gets underway at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dutchtown Branch.

Take Back the Night
The Ascension community is invited to gather for Take Back the Night, an evening of remembrance and education on domestic violence awareness, at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Jambalaya Park in Gonzales. A silent march starts at the courthouse and ends with a ceremony at Jambalaya Park.
No registration is required, and there is no fee to attend.
Teen open mic night
Teens, bring your talent and 10 minutes of material, or two songs, to perform in front of a crowd to the Dutchtown Branch of the Ascension Parish Library from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Legal advice program
The Ascension Parish Library, along with the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Library Association, will host “Lawyers in Libraries” at 9 a.m. Oct. 29 at the Gonzales Branch.
Artis G. Ulmer III will be on hand for “Ask-a-Lawyer” sessions. Appointments for free legal consultations and notarial services will be provided in one-on-one settings.

The Ascension Chamber of Commerce’s Dodgeball Challenge will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center gym.
Cost per team is $200. Teams may have a maximum of six members with a minimum of two females per team.
