A prayer breakfast in memory of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor local law enforcement agencies for their commitment to serve and protect was held Sept. 11 at Ascension Christian High School in Gonzales.
More than 100 law enforcement officials from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Gonzales Police Department attended the breakfast, a news release said.
“We felt that it was timely to reassure our men and women in uniform that we are praying for them and their families as they risk their lives for us every day,” school Superintendent Mark Pellegrin said.
The students of Ascension Christian Schools sponsored the breakfast and wrote cards, letters and banners to honor and thank the police and deputies. A home-cooked breakfast was served by student leaders. The breakfast wrapped up with students praying for protection over the officers and their families.
