St. Amant High School’s tennis program ended the season with eight members of the girls team making it to the state tennis tournament held April 28 to May 1 at Heard Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The school’s girls doubles team pushed the team forward by winning the regional championship title. The win in regional and qualifying nine players was a history-making performance for the team, said Kristy Melancon Englade, fourth-year tennis coach.

Boys player Luke Savoie also qualified for the state tournament.

In the state tournament, Carlie Melancon won her first-round match against Byrd and lost in the second round.

Kelly Young and Victoria Buquet, regional champs in girls doubles and seeded fourth in the state tournament, lost to Mount Carmel in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.

Brooke Broussard and Angelle Naquin won their first match at state against Zachary and lost a close second-round match to Fontainebleau.
