Artists can learn swamp painting with folk artist Mary Crochet at the River Region Art Association’s Depot Gallery, 1008 W. La. 30, Gonzales.

Students will learn the techniques of painting different skies, swamp trees, cabins and water with reflections and other swamp foliage, a news release from the River Region Art Association said.

Crochet has been painting for more than 50 years. She hopes to not only teach the methods to her students “but also share the sense of relaxation, peace and joy of the process of painting your own piece of art,” the news release said.

The adult class is offered in four sessions and will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays from Feb. 5-26.

The class fee is $50 and should be paid to River Region Art Association. A $20 supply fee will be added at the start of class.

Students will have access to supplies in the classroom, such as brushes, easels and plastic palettes, the release said.

The River Region Art Association Depot Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
