Volunteer Ascension is accepting nominations for its annual awards program honoring outstanding volunteers, agency Executive Director Sherry Denig said.

All nominees will be honored during the agency’s Volunteer of the Year Luncheon, which will be held during National Volunteer Week in April.

“We all know people who have made a difference in our community this year,” Denig said. “We are looking to honor those individuals that have been a beacon of light by volunteering their time to help others.”

Nominations are now open in all categories. For those individuals or groups with outstanding volunteer service in 2012, the categories include: Youth Individual or Group, Education/Community Group and Community Service Individual. For the individual whose service spans over 10 years or longer, a Lifetime Volunteer award is given, she said.

Last year’s list of winners included Don Robert, Brandon Gordon, CASA, Tyler Villar and Brad Walker.

To submit a nomination, call the Volunteer Ascension office at (225) 644-7655.

Volunteer Ascension is a local not-for-profit service organization that strives to positively impact the needs of Ascension Parish, Denig said. Since 1997, the agency’s mission has been to assist those who are in need by recruiting and training local volunteers who in turn reach out to help the needy in the community.
