In recent weeks, several area residents have been taking part in the “cold water challenge” to raise money for various nonprofit agencies and charities.

The firefighters at the Galvez-Lake Volunteer Fire Department took the plunge to raise money for fallen firefighters.

In the challenge, firefighters were asked to pay $10 to the nonprofit if they would take a bath in a tub of cold water and $100 if they did not get wet, a news release from the department said.

The group raised $200.
