Professional rodeo is coming to the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in April, Parish President Tommy Martinez said.
The Professional Roughstock Series “Battle in the Bayou” will feature the top names in bareback riding, saddle bsdronc riding and bull riding during the April 13 rodeo, according to the PRS.
“We’re really excited to have the ‘Battle in the Bayou’ event here at Lamar-Dixon,” Martinez said. The Professional Roughstock Series make sure people will be on the edge of their seats.”
Ascension Parish government owns the center, at 9039 St. Landry Rd. in Gonzales.
Headquartered in Belle Fourche, S.D., the PRS features top names in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding, according to PRS information. Riders are matched up with hand-picked world class animal athletes. The bucking stock is worth over $2 million, according to PRS.
The “Battle in the Bayou” will feature 12 athletes in each event including defending 2012 PRS World Champion Bareback Rider Steven Peebles. Other riders slated to appear include bareback points leader J.R. Vezain, bull riding points leader McKennon Wimberly and saddle bronc points leader Eric Wolford.
The twelve riders from each discipline will have one riding opportunity in the first round. The top four scores in each discipline will advance to the “Wrangler Final Four Showdown.” The rider with the highest aggregate score will be crowned the “Battle of the Bayou” Champion.
The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center’s “Battle in the Bayou” is the sixth stop on the nationally televised 2013 PRS Tour.
