Pelican Point health fair planned

Mark your calendars for the first Pelican Point Community Health Fair, hosted by Ascension Parish government, Pelican Family Health Clinic and Ralph’s Pharmacy.

The fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Main Street at Pelican Point, 6473 La. 44, Gonzales.

There will be a number of exhibitors, along with free jambalaya, sno-balls and water. Activities include blood pressure screenings by the River Parishes Community College nursing program, bowling, bean bag toss, a classic car show, a DWI goggle demonstration by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, mammograms by Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, pet adoptions by CARA’s House, the grand opening of Ralph’s Pharmacy and music by Lester Kenyon and Kane Glaze.

Coffee and crafts

Adult Coloring Craze program at the Gonzales Branch of Ascension Parish Library is a time for adults to unwind with coloring, coffee and conversation.

Bring a friend at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and choose from a variety of pictures to color.

CHILDREN: Little Bits engineering (registration required), grades 2 through 5, 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dutchtown and 3:30 p.m. July 14, Donaldsonville; Christmas in July, grades 2 through 5, 6:30 p.m. Monday, Gonzales and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Donaldsonville; Swingin’ Sock Hop, all ages, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Gonzales; and Shark Party, all ages, 6:30 p.m. July 14, Dutchtown.

TWEENS: Hand-crafted washi tape notebooks and glittery locker magnets, grades 4 through 8, 2 p.m. July 15 , all library locations.

TEENS: Beach Party, 4 p.m. Monday, Galvez and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dutchtown; Battleship, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Galvez; and Christmas in July, 4 p.m. Wednesday, Gonzales.

Joint replacement class

St. Elizabeth Hospital is offering a total joint replacement education class from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday in the hospital’s Sister Linda conference room.

Health professionals will guide attendees through the process of knee or hip replacement surgery from pre-admission to rehabilitation.

The class is free and no registration is required.

Leaders welcome

The Ascension Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its next Leadership Ascension class.

The program prepares emerging community leaders for leadership positions in local government, business and community affairs with the assistance of a steering committee of community leaders and chamber staff.
