Sixteen students will compete Friday for the Ascension Idol-Voice title Friday at the Gonzales Civic Center.
The Ascension Fund’s annual singing contest pits high school and middle school students in a multiple round sing-off. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Ascension Idol-Voice is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Ascension Fund, which provided its first teacher grants in 1992 and has since given more than 1,100 grants representing over $1.3 million in awards to area public schools and teachers.

The first-place winner will receive a Jazz Fest Krewe of Jazz Fest weekend package for two, and second place wins two three-day floor passes to Bayou Country Fest.
Hosts for the event will be Matt Pryor and Mandi Ridgdell; and judges will be Julie Jones, Clayton Decoteau, Mike Waguespack and Jenny Heroman Koenig.
