Sixteen students will compete Friday for the Ascension Idol-Voice title Friday at the Gonzales Civic Center.

The Ascension Fund’s annual singing contest pits high school and middle school students in a multiple round sing-off. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Ascension Idol-Voice is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Ascension Fund, which provided its first teacher grants in 1992 and has since given more than 1,100 grants representing over $1.3 million in awards to area public schools and teachers.

“We would like to thank our wonderful sponsors,” Ascension Fund Executive Director Jennifer deFrances said. “Their support allows us to put forth a phenomenal production with enviable prizes.”

The first-place winner will receive a Jazz Fest Krewe of Jazz Fest weekend package for two, and second place wins two three-day floor passes to Bayou Country Fest.

Hosts for the event will be Matt Pryor and Mandi Ridgdell; and judges will be Julie Jones, Clayton Decoteau, Mike Waguespack and Jenny Heroman Koenig.

Tickets are available General admission is $10 and student admission is $5.
