Eatel and Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension are teaming up to raise funds for CARA’s House, formerly known as the Ascension Parish Animal Shelter, through the first Krewe of Fideaux Pet Parade and Costume Contest on Saturday .
The fundraiser is free to attend and will be held in the parking lot of Eatel’s Operations Building at 406 E. Worthey Road in Gonzales. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., and the parade rolls at 1:30 p.m.
Participation in the parade or costume contest is a $20 donation per animal and an extra $5 per additional pet. Prizes will be given out in the categories of most original, most unusual, best small dog and best large dog. Also featured will be a canine kissing booth, vendors, food and adoptable animals.
Aggressive behavior of animals will not be tolerated, and pets in heat are not allowed. All pets must be older than 12 weeks, have rabies certification and be leashed at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Non-motorized floats are allowed.
“We are so happy to support CARA’s House and host this first Mardi Gras-themed event for local families and their pets in Ascension,” said Matt Wallace, Eatel’s executive vice president of marketing. “It is our hope that through this event, we will help CARA’s House fulfill their mission, which is to find loving, permanent homes for the animals they rescue.”
