Madison Campbell, of Ascension Christian High School, is participating in the AHEC of a Summer program at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

The annual 15-day program is presented by the Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center. It is for high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors in a nine-parish region and gives students the chance to explore nursing and related health fields. Experiences include rotating through different medical departments, field trips and daily teaching sessions.

Participants are chosen on the basis of grades, a written essay and an interview. The program is an accredited high school course for one-half unit elective credit.

The nonprofit Central Louisiana Area Health Education Center serves as a training and information source for health and education professionals.
