The East Ascension Sportsman’s League 55th annual Kids Fishing Rodeo will be held Aug. 1, weather permitting, at the Twin Lakes Park on La. 74 in Dutchtown.
The fishing rodeo is free of charge and open to all children ages 2 to 14 who will compete by age group and gender. All fish will be counted and weighed regardless of size, but turtles and eels don’t count. Every child will bring home a door prize.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 1, with fishing from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded immediately after judges finish tallying results.
Children must bring a cane pole or rod and reel. Only live bait is allowed. Crickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents can help bait the hook and/or cast the line, but the children must hold the pole and land the fish.
Parents should bring folding chairs, a bucket to hold fish, sunscreen and water. Food and drinks will be available for the children before and after fishing.
