Longtime Ascension educator will retire Dec. 31 _lowres

Ascension public schools Director of Middle Schools Gwendolyn Price is retiring at the end of December after 30 years of service.

She will be succeeded by Edith Walker.

“I want to focus on me,” Price said. “I’ve always been either Ms. Price or Ms. Gwen, the musician, teacher and administrator. It is time for me to figure out who is Gwen. I plan to reconnect with my passions and take care of me.”

Price has been a substitute teacher, grant administrator, teacher, assistant principal, principal and director during her career in education.

“I have enjoyed working with Ms. Price and following her career,” Superintendent Patrice Pujol said. “She’s played an invaluable role in our organization, bringing great expertise, strong leadership and cultivating relationships with parents, teachers and principals. She really has been a valued employee and will be missed.”

Price was born in Donaldsonville to Wilbert Jr. and Audrey Price and raised in Darrow. She graduated from East Ascension High School in 1978 and attended Southern University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in piano/vocal.
