The People’s Choice Awards of the River Region Photography Exhibition 2014 were announced Aug. 29 during its closing reception.

Hosted by the River Region Art Association, the exhibition was held Aug. 18-29 at the association’s Depot Gallery, 1008 W. La. 30, Gonzales, a news release from the organization said.

Theresa Mullins won first place in the adult division, and Linda Medine took second place.

Third place was a tie with Cathy Smart and Robin Stevens honored for their works.

Honorable mention awards went to Sheldon Anderson, Deborah Chase, Don Courtney, Kitty Kuhnert, Jackie Simm and Robin Stevens.

Christian Bock won first place in the student division with Abbey Scarton, second, and Emma Bauman, third. Delaney Madere won an honorable mention prize.

The River Region Art Association, founded in 1993, is a regional art organization, the release said. Its mission is to bring artists and art advocates together to improve public awareness of all art forms, the release said. The association supports local artists, promotes the arts in the community and provides educational opportunities for emerging and established artists, students and residents.

The River Region Art Association is funded in part through donations from residents and businesses, and the Recreation Department of Ascension Parish, and through in-kind support from the city of Gonzales and Houmas House Plantation. It also is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the state Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, the release said.
