The Jambalaya Festival Association held a groundbreaking ceremony April 13 to celebrate the association’s new building on South Francois Avenue in Gonzales, a news release said.

The nonprofit organization was founded in 1968 as a way to raise money for the Gonzales Lions Club and other nonprofits. It hosts the Gonzales Jambalaya Festival each year.

Attending the ceremony were JFA President Wally Taillon and JFA Vice President Tammy Guillory, parish President Kenny Matassa, Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux, Gonzales Councilmen Neal Bourque and David Guitreau, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson, Ascension Parish Assessor Mert Smiley, Ascension Parish Clerk of Court and Ascension Chamber of Commerce Board Chairman Bridget Hanna, Ascension Parish School Board member Scott Duplechin, Ascension Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Sherrie Despino, Chamber board members, ambassadors and members, VIP attendees and JFA board members, family and friends.
