Volunteers prayed and sang at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Donaldsonville on Saturday morning before hitting the streets for a community cleanup.
City Councilman and Emmanuel Baptist Pastor Charles Brown led religious leaders, politicians and more than 100 people with a message of hope for a town struck by recent violence.
Organizers planned the prayer service after two men were gunned down last week at a Latino Street home. In the week before that, a sheriff’s deputy and a teenager were wounded in separate shootings.
After the prayer service, volunteers spent the morning picking up trash and cleaning up around buildings in the city.
