Two Donaldsonville High School football players signed full athletic and academic scholarships Feb. 3 during a ceremony at the school.

Tyler Brown signed scholarship papers to play with Southern University, and Tyarise Stevenson signed with the University of Tulsa.

The students both began their football journey when they were 5 years old.

Brown said he realized he had potential during his sophomore year when the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Tulane, Southern and Arkansas State expressed interest in him. He hesitated before making a commit to any college but realized Southern had offered him everything he needs “to be successful on the field and in academics,” he said. In addition to playing wide receiver for the Southern Jaguars, Brown said he plans to study mass communications.

Stevenson said his size, talent and potential were pointed out to him while attending middle school. He plans to study marketing.
