Registration is underway for Mayor Barney Arceneaux’s 28th annual Prayer Breakfast.
The breakfast is set for 7 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Gonzales Civic Center.
Baton Rouge Mayor President Melvin “Kip” Holden is set as guest speaker.

The Ascension Council on Aging will host a fall AARP Safe Driving Course from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 12 at the Gonzales Senior Center.

The River Parish Community College’s Gamma Beta Phi Chapter and Rotaract Cancer Fundraiser will be from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 at 925 W. Edenborne Parkway.
The fundraiser is for the local Mary Bird Perkins Cancer screening center. The event will feature a Walk-A-Thon, activities for children and food. A representative from the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Screening Center will be present to distribute information on early detection of cancer and other items. Cook-off and sale
A gumbo and potato salad cook-off and sale to benefit the Dreams Come True Foundation will start at 7 a.m. Nov. 22 at River Rats Bar and Grille.
Gumbo contestants must turn their gumbo in for judging by 11:30 a.m. Food will be sold starting at 11:30. The entry fee is $50, and contestants must cook at least three gallons. Participants may cook any type of gumbo, however, it must be cooked on site. Trophies and money will be awarded to the top three cooks.
Potato salad contestants must prepare their dishes with at least one dozen eggs, and 10 pounds of potatoes. The potato salad can be prepared at home, however, it must be ready for judging at 11 a.m. The entry fee is $20. The top three entries will receive a trophy.
The deadline to enter is Nov. 19.

The Angler Magazine hosts fishing event for youths
The Angler Magazine will host Hook Kids on Fishing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, 9039 S. St. Landry Ave., Gonzales.
This free youth-focused event encourages children to discover the thrill and excitement that fishing can offer, organizers said. The first 150 youths that enter the gates will receive a goody-filled back pack.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. and Hook Kids on Fishing stations will begin at 9 a.m.
