The East Ascension Sportsman’s League will hold its 55th annual Kids Fishing Rodeo on Aug. 1, weather permitting, at Twin Lakes Park on La. 74 in Dutchtown.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., with fishing from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The rodeo is open to all children ages 2 through 14 and is free. There will be free food and door prizes for all children participating.

Children must bring a cane pole or rod and reel and must fish with crickets, worms or other live bait. No artificial lures are allowed.

Parents are allowed to help bait the hook and cast the line, but the kids must hold the pole and land the fish. Parents should bring folding chairs, live bait and a bucket to hold the fish. All fish will be counted and weighed.

Trophies will be awarded for the biggest fish and for the most fish caught in each category. Children will be grouped by age and gender.
