ChemFriends Week begins Nov. 1 in Ascension Parish _lowres

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed Nov. 1-7 as ChemFriends Week in Ascension Parish during the Oct. 15 Parish Council meeting in Gonzales, a news release said.

The ChemFriends Expo, which aims to raise interest in science and chemistry among sixth-grade students in the parish, will be held Nov. 4-5 at the Gonzales Civic Center, 219 S. Irma Blvd. The expo is celebrating its 19th year, said Jobie Templet, event committee member.

About 1,800 students from private, public and home schools will attend the event, according to the ChemFriends website.

Students are invited to the expo on Nov. 4. Members of the community are invited to attend on Community Night, set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 5.

Sponsors include Ascension Parish Government, Air Products, BASF, C.F. Industries, Dupont, Honeywell, Methanex, Motiva, OxyChem, PCS Nitrogen, Rubicon, Shell Chemical, Westlake Chemical, Williams, Gonzales Fire Department, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Ascension Parish School Board and Southern University.
