The Ascension Parish Master Gardeners welcomed 13 new members at a ceremony on Nov. 4 in Gonzales.

The new members recently completed a course of classroom and hands-on training about a variety of topics, ranging from plant biology and soil science to plant diseases and pest control, a news release from the group said.

Craig Roussel, horticulture agent for Ascension/St. James parishes, and Ascension Parish Master Gardener President Jamie Trisler presented the new members with graduation certificates at the Ascension Parish Master Gardeners annual Harvest Social, where WBRZ’s Pat Shingleton was the featured speaker.

The Ascension Parish Master Gardeners presented Shingleton with a donation for the annual Coats for Kids charity drive.
