LSU Agricultural Center’s Sweet Potato Research Station is selling foundation seed sweet potatoes to the public.
The seed potatoes are to be bedded in the row to produce slips, or cuttings, which are then transplanted to the field to produce the crop, a news release said.
Varieties available are Beauregard B-63, Beauregard B-14, Evangeline, Porto Rico, O’Henry, Jewel, HeartoGold and Hernandez; some varieties have limited availability. All are certified to be free of viruses.
A 40-pound box is $18.50 for Beauregard (B-63 and B-14) and Evangeline, and $25 for all other varieties.
Ordering deadline is noon Jan. 25. Call the Ascension Parish Extension Office at (225) 621-5799.
