Seven members of the Gonzales Police Department’s Chief’s Own Honor Guard completed 40 hours of Drill Master Honor Guard Academy training on Oct. 30.

Those completing training were Detective Carey Cannon, Cpl. Randy Clouatre Jr., Field Training Officer Walter Taylor, Motors Patrol Officer Jimmie Dunaway and Officers Joshua Dunaway, Tyson Dennis and Derek LeBlanc.

Chief Sherman Jackson attended a mock funeral at Ourso Funeral Home where the Honor Guard members displayed the results of their training.

Training included regulations and standards of standing, arms handling, how to correctly use the flagstaff, funeral honors, pallbearing, casket movement, flag fold, firing in salute and casket watch.

Following the ceremony, the funeral home donated the casket to the police department and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office to be used for continued training.
