Art, crafts and food will line the banks of Bayou Francois in Gonzales on Saturday and Sunday for River Region Art Association’s Awesome Art On The Bayou festival.

The gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. both days for the free-admission festival.

Visitors can stroll along the bayou and visit artists and craftsmen, organizers said.

Children can take part in an art class, get their face painted or compete in a turtle race.

An art show will be on display inside Gonzales city hall.

There’s music and performances on tap and a long menu of food.

Skrmetta to lead discussion

Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta will be the featured speaker at the Ascension GOP Roundtable sponsored by Ascension Republican Women.

The roundtable discussion starts at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at Kamal’s Kafe, 13091 Airline Highway, Gonzales.

Veterans Day parade

Ascension Veterans Associations’ Veterans Day Parade and celebration is set for Nov. 9 in Gonzales.

Organizers are looking for veterans, marching groups, school groups and others interested in taking part in this tribute to veterans.

Parade throws will be allowed and encouraged. Children and Scout groups with wagons and bikes allowed with preregistration only.

Staging for participants and floats begins at 1 p.m. on Irma Boulevard, and the parade rolls at 2 p.m.

Career Days underway

It’s not too late to take part in Career Days at East Ascension and Dutchtown high schools.

The East Ascension Career Day is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 23 and the Dutchtown event is from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Nov. 11, organizers Shannon Hattier and Micki Leblanc said.

The goal of the career fair is to expose students to a variety of career options. Tables will be provided for all participants. Interested students will be gathering information and asking questions.
