The Donaldsonville High School Beta Club members will be attending the National Beta Convention in June in Richmond, Va.

Jason Williams won second place in the math state competition, qualifying him for the next level of competition, club sponsor Trudy Bates said.

Daja Cox ran for state vice president and, though unsuccessful, forged a friendship with presidential candidate Cole Holley, of East Ascension High School, who won the title.

Cox, Williams, Quenisha Green, Kasha Jarvis, Shaun Brown, Tyrielle Thomas and Bates will represent Donaldsonville and the state at the convention.

The Donaldsonville Beta Club also will join EA in running a political campaign as Holley runs for national Beta president.

“We will enter our service record for national competition for which we have placed in four of five years,” Bates said.

“We are excited to again make history for DHS during a year when the Beta theme is ‘Making History with Beta.’ ”
