Get out your ear plugs for the loudest pep rally around.
Fans of East Ascension and St. Amant high schools will come together at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center for the annual Shout Out, a community pep rally before the big cross-parish rivalry football game.
The community pep rally decides the owner of the 2015 Spirit Stick and bragging rights.
The football game between the Spartans and Gators is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 16 in Spartan Stadium in Gonzales.
The Shout Out raises money for both schools and starts earlier in the day with jambalaya lunches for sale in LeBlanc’s Payless parking lot on Airline Highway in Gonzales.
At the pep rally, coaches, bands, cheerleaders, dance teams, trainers, ROTC groups and flag squads will join both football teams for a shouting match at the end of the two-hour event.
The pep rally has its roots in an event that was held in the late 1990s in a restaurant parking lot.
After an extended absence, the event was brought back in 2008 by James E. LeBlanc, Alan Marrero and Jose Boriel from St. Amant and Ralph Delatte and Tommy Trahan of East Ascension. In 2008, each school was given $8,000 and in 2014 the schools were given $18,000.
Event organizers also will hold a “Shout Out Ryder Cup Shoot Out” golf event on Monday at Pelican Point in Gonzales.
