LSU University College presented its annual Celebration of Excellence Spring Awards program on March 12 at the Club at Union Square.

University College awarded $74,000 through 64 undergraduate student scholarships, seven LSU faculty teaching awards, two graduate teaching assistant awards and one LSU Advisor of the Year Award.

Three Ascension Parish students were among those receiving scholarships at the event.

Joshua Medernach, of Gonzales, was awarded the LSU University College Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship. A junior majoring in computer science with an overall 3.922 grade-point average, he is the son of Donald and Sandy Medernach and a graduate of East Ascension High School.

Marina Speligene, of Gonzales, was awarded the LSU University College Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship. A sophomore majoring in biology with an overall 3.75 GPA, she is the daughter of Darren and Monica Speligene and a graduate of East Ascension High School.

Briana Garcia, of Prairieville, was awarded the LSU University College Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship. A freshman undecided major with an overall 4.0 GPA, she is the daughter of Chad Garcia and Jennifer St. Romain and a graduate of Dutchtown High School.

The Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship is provided through the support of the LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation. It is awarded to full-time students enrolled in University College having completed a minimum of 15 hours of college level work and earned a 3.25 or higher GPA.
