Quiana Lynell has been chosen as the headlining guest vocalist with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Christmas concerts, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Baton Rouge River Center.
Lynell will perform tunes ranging from Handel’s “Messiah” to the jazz standard “Santa Baby.”
Lynell has been a resident of Ascension Parish for more than 10 years, where she has been a music teacher for seven. She has directed band in Donaldsonville at Lowery Middle and runs the music program at G.W. Carver Primary.
Lynell is a graduate of LSU’s music department. She leads a jazz band called The Lush Life that has toured regionally at the Baton Rouge Blues Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Hemmingbough Blues Festival. Lynell, who also tours with Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders, will release her first extended-play recording, “Loving Me,” on Jan. 1.
