Two recent high school graduates each were awarded $1,000 scholarships from the 23rd Judicial District Bar Association.

Blaire Laiche, of East Ascension High School, plans to major in biology at Nicholls State University, and Jasmine Worley, of Donaldsonville High School, plans to major in business at LSU.

The Bar Association has been providing scholarships to qualified applicants graduating from Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes since 2006, a news release said. Funds come from donations from attorneys and judges who belong to the association.
