Girl Scouts from Geismar and Gonzales have earned the highest awards for their scout level by completing a series of leadership challenges in preparation for their final community or “take action” project.

The Bronze Award is for Girl Scout Juniors in fourth- and fifth-grade. Girl Scout Cadettes in sixth- through eighth-grade are eligible for the Silver Award.

Emma Britton, Jaclynn Dean, Leighton Flanagan, Catherine Hunter, Triniti Holland, Emma Lauret, Magnolia McCarty and Arianna Walters, all of Geismar Girl Scout Junior Troop 10152, earned Bronze Awards. Their project adviser was Donna Hunter.

The girls created 120 craft kits to entertain families and patients at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. The kits included instructions, necessary supplies and a homemade get-well card.

Cadette Girl Scout Olivia Bradshaw, of Troop 10340 in Gonzales, earned a Silver Award. Her project adviser was Hope Ortego.

Bradshaw held a healthy food class for 7- to 9-year-olds that covered healthy but tasty recipes, portion control and sugar intake, along with food bingo and a design-a-meal activity.
