Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa proclaimed April 5 as National Service Recognition Day in the parish and presented the proclamation to members of the Foster Grandparent Program on April 1.

The program is part of the Quad Area Community Action Agency, which serves Ascension, Livingston, Tangipahoa, Washington, St. Helena, East Feliciana and West Feliciana parishes. Its volunteers assist children with education and social development, while helping to improve physical and mental development, according to a news release.

Director Sandra Cavalier said 12 volunteers currently are serving in Ascension Parish in the public schools and the Head Start Center.
