The Ascension Tennis Association in Gonzales hosted a tennis tournament April 16 at the Gonzales courts. Local teams competing included St. Amant, Denham Springs and Dutchtown high schools, said Kristy Englade, St. Amant High School tennis coach.

The tourney was to help prepare the tennis players for the regional high school tennis tournament on April 18. The doubles team of Olivia Williams and Cassidy ONeal, of Denham Springs High School, won the consolation match.

Sophia Belleu and Laine Peterson were runners-up in girls doubles, and Cassie Melancon and Jordan Allred won the doubles event. All four girls are from St. Amant High.

St. Amant High School’s Michael Melancon and Trace Sheets won the boys doubles title, and St. Amant’s Luke Mayon and Logan Langlois were third. Dutchtown High’s team of Hunter Hall and Jacob Gautreaux were doubles runners-up.

In boys singles play, Luke Savoie, of St. Amant, won with Macall Braud, also of St. Amant, winning the runner-up title.
