For the record
The John James Audubon Bridge between West Feliciana and Pointe Coupee parishes has been open since May, but state highway officials announced the official end of construction in late February with the installation of the navigational clearance gauges, markers that indicate the vertical distance between the waterline and the lowest point of the bridge span in the navigational channel.
The new Mississippi River crossing is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere, with a 1,583-foot main span.
