Snow days makeup

Because of the days missed in the recent winter weather, students in Zachary schools will have to make up days according to the school board website. Students will have full school days on May 17-18. Classes will have early dismissal on May 21-23. May 23 is the last day of school.

Zacharyhigh.org lists an updated final exam schedule for seniors: 

May 3: seventh period

May 4: fifth and sixth period

May 7: third and fourth period

May 8: first and second period

Final exams for the other high schoolers will be May 18: seventh period

May 21: fifth and sixth period

May 22: third and fourth period

May 23: first and second period

Mayor to parade 

Baker Mayor Darnell Waites will be grand marshal for Impact Charter’s Mardi Gras Parade at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the school, 4815 Lavey Lane, Baker. 

Library holiday 

Every location of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 13, in observance of Mardi Gras. Normal hours of operation will resume Wednesday, Feb. 14. Online resources will be available as always 24/7 at www.ebrpl.com. It’s free, and all you need is a library card to check out resources. East Baton Rouge Parish residents who do not already have a library card may use online registration to receive a temporary new e-card, which allows access to the digital library.

Early childhood information

The Zachary Early Childhood Network Information Fair will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Zachary High School gym. The fair will feature groups that work with children ages birth to 4 years old, including the Zachary Early Learning Center, Bright Beginnings Child Development Center, Just Like Home Learning Center, Universal Children's Learning Academy LLC, EarlySteps Program-Louisiana Department of Health and Rising Starz Early Learning Center. 

Musical event

The Heritage Choral Ensemble will present "Walk Together Children" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, at First Baptist Church of Baker, 3213 Groom Road.

Director Clarence Jones and the group will feature spirituals in an a cappella program that is free to all ages. The program is sponsored by Main Street Pilot Club and Baker Schools. An offering will be collected. The program is to benefit Baker High School's Symphonic Band’s invitational trip to perform at Carnegie Hall: National Band & Orchestra Festival in New York.

Recycling routes: Residential recycling routes in Zachary changed on Feb. 1. Make sure to have your recyclables out on the correct day.

Lions garage sale: The Zachary Lions Club is still seeking donations of items to sell at its spring garage sale March 2-3. To donate, call (225) 654-5421, (225) 654-6494 or (225) 654-6325 before the end of February.
