BAKER — Police have identified the body found near a civic organization’s building Thursday as that of a 43-year-old Baton Rouge man.

Baker Assistant Police Chief Randall Dunaway said the victim, Abelardo Domingo Pampo, who lived on Mavis Drive, died of an apparent gunshot wound.

The Police Department received a call about 4:45 a.m. that a body was found on the grounds of the Baker Civic Club’s clubhouse and near a pond known locally as the Little League Pond on North Magnolia Drive.

A pickup truck believed to belong to a member of Pampo’s family was parked nearby, Dunaway said.

Police have no motive for the killing and no suspect, Dunaway said.

“There are a lot of unanswered questions. We have a dead body with no explanation of why it’s here,” the assistant chief said.

Anyone having information about the shooting is asked to call Baker police at (225) 775-6000.
