ANGOLA — West Feliciana Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a Louisiana State Penitentiary employee accused of entering the prison with more than a pound of hidden marijuana, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Monday.
Maj. Archer Lee, chief of the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division, said Angola officers stopped Derrick K. Cavalier, 33, when he entered the prison’s front gate Saturday afternoon and discovered he was carrying 26.2 ounces of marijuana.
Cavalier, 7857 Solitude Road, St. Francisville, had worked at the prison for several years, Lee said.
Detective Sgt. Marty Freeman, after placing Cavalier under arrest, obtained permission to search Cavalier’s residence, where Freeman found another 12 ounces of marijuana, Lee said.
Cavalier was booked at the West Feliciana Parish Jail on introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
