ZACHARY — A 2-year-old child drowned in a backyard pool on Thursday morning after the child slipped outside without the mother noticing, Zachary Police said.
When the mother found her child in the pool on North Turnberry Avenue, she ran to the front yard with the child in her arms screaming for help, said Zachary Police Chief David McDavid.
Arriving police performed CPR, and EMS took the child to a nearby hospital, where the child was pronounced dead, McDavid said.
The drowning happened at the home of the mother’s parents, and she had been house-sitting for them while they were out of town.
No further information was available on Thursday evening.
