The Zachary Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for this year’s Leadership North program, a leadership development effort for the North Capital area.
Twenty-five spots are open to people living or working in Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary and Central, and Pointe Coupee, East Feliciana and West Feliciana parishes.
The deadline for applying is Jan. 31.
Eight sessions will be held between March 21 and a date in October or November to be announced.
The state Department of Economic Development and the LSU Agricultural Center also are sponsors of the project.

Author J. Derald Morgan is writing a history of the McKneely (McNeely) clan that settled in Wilkinson County, Miss., or what is now East and West Feliciana parishes in Louisiana in the early 1800s. The families lived throughout the Florida Parishes and other areas of Louisiana.
He’s interested in material related to the McKneely, McCant, Scott, Skipwith, Rogillio, Reily, Boatman, Singletary, Winter, Nettles, Lewis, Brown, Germany, Denny, Worsham and related families.

The Clinton branch of Audubon Regional Library will hold story time for children 3 to 8 years old from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.
The library also has books from the Louisiana Young Readers Choice program sponsored by the State Library for third- through 12th-grade students.
Chess and checkers
The Zachary branch library, 1900 Church St., will have volunteers on hand at 2 p.m. Saturday to teach children 6 and older how to play chess or checkers.
Books on the games also will be available to check out for additional study.
On Jan. 17, teenagers are invited to create funky scarves from ordinary T-shirts, which will not require any sewing skills.

New chamber manager
Charmaine Efferson has been promoted to manager of the Zachary Chamber of Commerce following the retirement of Greg McDougall, who will remain as a chamber ambassador to area businesses.
Efferson will manage the daily operations of the chamber and lead efforts to recruit and maintain the organization’s membership.
She has been with the chamber for more than two years.
The artwork for the East Feliciana Parish School Board and Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr.’s Christmas card, a rendition of a Christmas tree, was submitted by Savannah Wisner, a fourth-grader at Jackson Elementary School.
