CLINTON — A two-vehicle collision on Plank Road killed a Clinton woman Tuesday morning.
The death of Mary C. Henderson, 75, of Gross Road, was Clinton’s first traffic fatality in two years, Police Chief Eddie Stewart said.
Officer Sean Harrison said a pickup truck driven by John W. Thomas, 79, of Willow Street, Clinton, turned left into the inside southbound lane of Plank Road from Oak Street as Henderson’s Toyota, also southbound, approached at a high rate of speed.
Henderson applied her brakes, but her vehicle struck the right fender of the dual-wheel pickup and rolled three times before landing upright on a bridge, Harrison said.
Henderson, who was not using her seat belt, was taken by helicopter to Lane Regional Medical Center, where she died, Stewart said.
No charges were filed as a result of the 11:39 a.m. collision, which was investigated by Clinton police with the assistance of State Police Troopers Tommy Lee and Joe Nations, Harrison said.
