MDA Fill the Boot days
Zachary Mayor David Amrhein will issue a proclamation for MDA Fill the Boot days in a ceremony hosted with members of the Zachary Fire Department and Zachary Local 4644, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Zachary Fire Main Fire Station, 4525 Main St.
The event will kick off the firefighters' annual Fill the Boot drive to raise money for the fight against muscular dystrophy. Fundraisers will be out Sept. 28-29 and Oct. 1.
Amrhein, Fire Chief Danny Kimble, union president of Zachary Local 4644 Austin Porche, MDA state Ambassador Rachel Langley, Professional Firefighters Association of Louisiana President Chad Major and Professional Firefighters Association VP District 5 Ricky Campbell will be at the Sept. 27 ceremony to drop the first dollar in the boot.

The Zachary Chamber of Commerce announced the theme for the annual Christmas Parade is “Songs of Christmas.”
Brandy Westmoreland, of Landmark Bank, offered the winning suggestion for the event that will march down Main Street at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Parade Committee is asking children’s groups, community organizations and local businesses to use the many songs from different genres about Christmas to inspire their parade entry. Entries may include floats, dancers, costumes, horses, etc.
Cost for entry is $100 for chamber members and $125 for nonmembers. Deadline for entry is Nov. 20.

The Bishop E. Tracy Council of the Knights of Columbus is holding its second annual KofC Golf Scramble Benefit Tournament on Oct. 21 at Copper Mill Golf Course in Zachary.
The shotgun start is at 8 a.m. All proceeds go toward local charities.
The tournament costs $200 per foursome or $50 per individual player and includes a meal and door prizes. Individual registrants will be added to a team. Registration deadline is Oct. 14.

Baker Buffalo Festival
The Baker Buffalo Festival is Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23, at Baker City Park. Many activities are set. On Saturday, the schedule includes a parade at 10 a.m., NTUNE from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a magician and the Total Control Band from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A car show will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Baker City Hall. Baker library closed Saturday
Due to the Baker Buffalo Festival taking place in the immediate area of the Baker Branch Library, 3501 Groom Road, the branch will be closed Saturday, Sept. 23. Normal hours will resume Sunday, Sept. 24.
