Arlin Dease and the new Democratic women’s club, The Dem Dames of the Felicianas, will have a reception and book signing at Dease’s Hemingbough south of St. Francisville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Copies of Leo Honeycutt’s biography of former Gov. Edwin Edwards will be available for purchase, but people who already have the book may bring one copy to the event for Edwards and Honeycutt to autograph.

No admission is charged, but a cash bar will be open. “Light libations” also will be served.

Blood drive Monday

A blood drive will be held at the United Methodist Church in St. Francisville from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Hall.

Cleanup day set

Centenary State Historic Site in Jackson will have a cleanup day for the recently reopened park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

There are always areas of the site, such as the cemetery trail and East Wing Dormitory site, that could use the attention of caring volunteers, and this day will be designated for that, park officials said.

Flood disaster

State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain said East and West Feliciana are among six Louisiana parishes declared disaster areas because of flooding of the Mississippi River this past growing season.

Heart disease education

Lane Regional Medical Center will hold a free education and support program for congestive heart failure patients and their caregivers from 10 a.m. to noon Monday in the hospital’s staff development classroom.

The program features what patients may do to manage the challenges of living with the disease.
