ST. FRANCISVILLE — The West Feliciana Parish Police Jury’s former accounting manager pleaded no contest Monday to a misdemeanor theft charge involving public funds.
Sarah Coco, 47, entered the plea to the reduced charge before 20th Judicial District Judge William G. Carmichael, who fined her $500 and
placed her on probation for a year.
Coco had been charged with malfeasance in office.
St. Francisville police arrested Coco in March 2010 after then-Parish Manager Ambrose Sims accused her of using a Police Jury credit card for $1,700 in purchases while she was on vacation at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
Sims said in March 20, 2010, letter to jury President Ken Dawson that Coco repaid the money by buying a money
order and sending it to American Express Co. in Sims’
Carmichael ordered Coco to make restitution to the Police Jury, but District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla said Coco already had repaid the jury with the money order.
If Coco pays her fine and abides by the conditions of probation, a verdict of acquittal could be entered in the case, the judge said.
