Centenary State Historic Site in Jackson plans its first Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday. Craft demonstrators, artists and vendors of handmade items will be showing and selling their goods, including paintings, soaps, bath salts, candles, rocking chairs, jewelry boxes, stained glass, handmade pottery, wooden bowls and more.

In addition to the arts and crafts, “Old Sole,” a Baton Rouge band, will provide live music throughout the day, and free tethered hot air balloon rides will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon.

Antique and classic cars will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and visitors may tour the historic Professor’s House and the West Wing Dormitory from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The historic site is at 3522 College St. in Jackson.

See the Wizard

The Zachary High School theater and choir departments will present the first musical stage performance in the school’s new Music and Performing Arts Center, with 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday productions of “The Wizard of Oz” set this week and next.

Advance tickets are available at the high school’s main office. Ticket prices are $5 for elementary students; $10 for middle and high school students (with ID); and $15 for adults, or $10 if purchased through a cast member.

The cast also will appear at a 10 a.m. breakfast April 20 in the theater, with parents invited to take pictures. The breakfast admission is $5; contact Jen Masterson at jen.masterson@zacharyschools.org.

Rosedown wedding

Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site in St. Francisville invites visitors to a Saturday afternoon of music, dancing, graceful ladies in beautiful gowns and handsome gentlemen in formal evening dress as costumed re-enactors present the wedding of Sarah Turnbull, of Rosedown, to James Pirrie Bowman, of Oakley.

The wedding service will be staged at 1 p.m. in front of the main house, and a reception will follow.

Paint outdoors

The Feliciana Chapter of the Louisiana Art and Artists Guild is sponsoring “paint out days” April 25 and May 5 in Jackson, with artists and photographers invited to paint or shoot the town’s historic buildings and scenic vistas. The Dem Dames of the Felicianas will have another fitting of slightly used prom dresses for young East Feliciana ladies at Drop’n’Go Cleaners on Plank Road in Clinton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Angola Rodeo

The spring event started as an inmate arts and crafts show but got much bigger when Warden Burl Cain introduced two rodeo performances to the lineup. The gates will open at 9 a.m. for the arts and crafts sales, and the rodeo performances start at 2 p.m.
