Cooking with Audrey
Top Chef Jr. premieres at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, on Universal Kids, with Zachary's Audrey Brust, 12, among the 12 chefs, aged 11-14, competing for a $50,000 cash prize.
Audrey was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 7, but she wasn’t willing to give up eating delicious food. "Instead, Audrey learned to cook amazing gluten-free dishes. She credits her extensive culinary knowledge to cooking with her mom, reading cookbooks and watching cooking shows," a news release sais.
The third annual Baby Lane Remembers, a Pregnancy and Infant Loss Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, on the Lane Regional Medical Center Fitness Track, behind the hospital, 6300 Main St., Zachary.
The service is for anyone, especially parents, family, friends and professionals who have been affected by perinatal loss, such as miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or the death of a newborn.
The ceremony will feature music, readings, candle lighting, balloon release, bubbles and fellowship. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. For details, call (225) 658-4587.
A breast cancer awareness golf tournament to benefit the Zachary-Baker Relay for Life will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Fennwood Country Club. The fee is $40 a player with three-person teams. Sign up will be at the clubhouse. Entry includes food and prizes.
Americana YMCA has launched a new social media campaign.
#SelfieWithSomoneNew, aims to bring individuals and communities together in service of a better us, a news release said.
"Here in Zachary, the Y knows that this can start with something as simple as striking up a conversation with someone you’ve just met," the release said.
In October, the Y is encouraging community members to meet someone new, strike up a conversation and discover what they have in common. Then, take a selfie and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #SelfieWithSomeoneNew and tagging @YMCABR.
New car show
St. Alphonsus Catholic Church will hold its first car show Saturday, Oct. 28 at the church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Road.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and awards presentations are from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The entry fee is $25 entry, and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place will be awarded in many categories. Festivities will include a 50-50 raffle, concessions and door prizes. Proceeds benefit the St. Alphonsus Youth Group.
